Description

Interested partners/collaborators, who want to organize programs, events or activities to boost civic engagement or make 2026 a special commemoration, are invited to participate in an interactive workshop to inform the ‘Delco Semiquincentennial Celebration Plan’.

American Democracy is defined by its people participating, voicing their opinion, and making a difference through volunteering and public service. Volunteerism has an important impact on our communities, and we are committed to encouraging every resident to participate. There is a myriad of ways to give back to the community: parades, exhibitions, community clean-ups, etc. We encourage you to plan your Semiquin programming to help build the future of Delco. Here are just a few ideas to get you started:

  • Pennsylvania Day! – Designated as the volunteer component of the A250PA initiative, on July 20th volunteers take a day to give back to the Commonwealth by donating time to local food banks or local clean-ups.
  • High School Voter Information Drive: In partnership with the League of Women Voters Delaware County and other non-partisan organizations, this drive aims towards educating graduating high school students on how to best inform themselves for elections.
  • Preservation of our Historic sites: There are 100+ historic sites in Delaware County, most of whom rely on volunteers to function. Can you connect volunteers to support these important parts of our Delco story?
  • 250 new Trees by 2026. America's Garden County, Delco has over 30 gardens and arboretums and over 14,000 acres of public parks. Can you work with one of these sites and help us support our goal of planting 250 heritage or native trees by 2026?
  • 250 hours by 2026 - We are currently seeking co-hosts for campaigns sponsored by A250PADelco, but we are also happy to partner with your organization’s events, to encourage schools, universities, businesses, individuals, and families pledge 250 hours of helping our neighbors and community through service projects, volunteer hours, committee work and more. Important dates include Jan. 15 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service; April (3rd Week) National Volunteer Week; April 23- Earth Day Clean-Ups & Tree Plantings; June 10-Delco Day; July 20- PA Day w/ America250PA; Sept. 26 -Delaware County’s Birthday Celebration; Nov. 1-Tuesday Election Day; Nov. 11 Veterans Day
  • Nominate your own program to be a part of our Service Community Partner programs.

The journey toward this historic milestone is an opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond.
